Description:
The woman depicted is Ines Sadun Paggi, wife of Edoardo Paggi and mother of Mario, all members of a wealthy Jewish family from Pitigliano.
In the collection of the Municipality of Grosseto, there is another portrait of Ines, but in this work, the woman appears visibly older.
Although it may seem in pendant with that of her husband, the portrait of Ines was presumably created after the death of Edoardo. This would explain the advanced age of the woman and the black dress as a sign of mourning.
The artwork is part of the donation to the Municipality of Grosseto, which took place in 1971 at the behest of Mario Paggi and his wife Olga Lessana.
