Workshops for Primary Schools

How to create an artwork

How to create an artwork

During a hands-on workshop, students will experience the complexity of working in an art studio from the Middle Ages to the mid-17th century, discovering the many techniques used by artists - from tempera to oil painting.

They will get in touch with the world of an ancient painter starting from the analysis of the components of the painted panels, masterfully put together thanks to complex carpentry work by the ancient craftsmen . The preparation of the canvas and panel surfaces, the drafting of the preparatory drawing, the creation of pigments and natural adhesives, the application of the gold background, of lacquers and of protective films on the surfaces, the stone polishing and finishing decorations as well as the main phases of a restoration project will be illustrated.

Target group: primary school from grade 3, to first grade of secondary school.
Duration: 1 hour and a half

Starting from the figure of Gianfranco Luzzetti, the children will be accompanied to discover the works that compose the collection and will relive the stories that accompany each of them. Together we will try to relive Luzzetti's idea that allowed us all to enjoy this collection.

Target group: primary school grades 4 and 5 and first grade of secondary school.

Saints and Symbols

Saints and Symbols

The tour provides a journey through the iconography of sacred art: which symbols enable us to recognise the characters in the paintings?

How does the painting become a book for those who were unable to read?

By reviewing the example in the museum, students will be given the basic tools to read a work of art and identify the elements to understand its intrinsic complexity of symbols and meanings.

To consolidate the knowledge acquired during the visit, the students, guided by our educators, will play a fun game based on the "Guess who?" model.

Target group: first and second grade of secondary school.
Duration: 1 hour
