Description:
The work was created by the painter Giuseppe Passeri, who was very important and active in late 17th-century Rome: the artist was a follower of Carlo Maratta, as well as a Painter of the Apostolic Chamber and Academician of Saint Luke, and he trained in and absorbed the Baroque echoes of the capital.
Model for this canvas was the fresco that Raphael painted in the Vatican Rooms in the years 1512-1513 with the same iconographic theme, here translated by Passeri with a more fluid and free stroke.
