Description:
This high relief is part of the production of polychrome devotional sculptures of the Baroque period that was very popular in the XVII century because the simplicity of the materials used and the ease of transportation of this type of work.
The unknown author depicts the figure of Christ with great dynamism: the folds of the dress and the gesture of the hand that lead back to Christian symbolism are in full Baroque style, but the classicism of the gaze and posture make the author an excellent carver.
The work is a pendant to the wooden high relief of the Virgin Mary in the same collection.
