Description:
Camillo Rusconi was one of the most distinguished sculptors active in post-Tridentine Rome in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
In the capital he found a fervent atmosphere propitious to his consecration as a sculptor engaged in the urban redevelopment that was taking place by papal commission.
In the Baroque lesson of Bernini and the Classicist lesson of the painter Maratta, Rusconi was able to translate a language of scenographic Baroque aspects with a more graceful Classicism.
In this cameo-cut oval, the severe-looking angel placed in profile and the design of the curled locks distinguish the artist's mature style.
