Description:
This high relief is part of the production of polychrome devotional sculptures of the Baroque period that was very popular in the eighteenth century because of the simplicity of the materials used and the ease of transportation of this type of work.
The unknown author depicts Virgin Mary in prayer with great dynamism: the folds of her dress, her gaze rising to heaven, and her hands crossed at the breast are in full Baroque style, but classicism permeates this work made by an excellent carver.
The work is a pendant to the wooden high relief of the Blessing Christ in the same collection
