Description:
“Lo Spadarino” was one of the most important followers of Caravaggio in Rome.
This beautiful painting represents the Sacrifice of Isaac unconventional and innovative way in the light of the seventeenth-century novelties of the Caravaggio “schola”.
The canvas intended for a private dimension is shown to be devoid of violence, anguish and drama, as instead the biblical episode was conventionally depicted.
We see Isaac lying placidly on the ground, waiting for the mortal blow of his father who, instead, caresses his head with heartbreaking affection and concern, giving the viewer a very high level of pathos.
