Description:
The coat of arms of Girolamo Tantucci, Bishop in Grosseto between 1622-1637, identifies us the chronological terms within which to place the realization of the work painted in Rome by the painter Rutilio Manetti, a prominent exponent of the Senese Caravaggismo.
The painting expresses an intense poetics of the affections in the figure of the Mother who lovingly supports the Child caught in a deep sleep as a prefiguration of his Sacrifice.
